It Rained, So Give Your Irrigation System the Week Off

Rain finally came to a parched Riverside on Saturday and Riverside Public Utilities (RPU) is asking customers to give their irrigation systems the week off. “As our customer-owners know, we’ve got to take proactive steps now to conserve water resources,” said RPU General Manager Girish Balachandran. “Shutting off irrigation systems is the easiest thing we can do that can save thousands or even millions of gallons cumulatively each day when it is done citywide.” Read More...

SmartRiverside Adding Coding Classes, Moving Away From E-Waste Recycling

SmartRiverside, the non-profit organization that aims to narrow the digital divide through its digital inclusion program, is discontinuing the e-waste collection portion of its fundraising effort. Funding will continue to be provided by grants, donations and SmartRiverside’s annual golf tournament. The shift, which was approved recently by the organization’s Board of Directors, reflects market changes that make e-waste collection less attractive as a fundraiser for SmartRiverside. By focusing instead on more sustainable revenue sources, SmartRiverside aims to cut expenses and increase revenue. Read More...

Riverside Residents Oppose Legalizing Marijuana Dispensaries, Poll Finds

A majority of Riverside residents – as high as 67 percent – said they oppose legalizing marijuana dispensaries via a measure placed on the June 2 ballot by dispensary operators, according to a poll commissioned by the City of Riverside. Opposition to legalizing dispensaries grew as residents who were polled learned more about the measure. Read More...

City of Riverside to Name Gary Geuss City Attorney

Gary Geuss, a 26-year veteran of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office who supervises legal operations for some of that city’s largest departments, including the Port of Los Angeles, Los Angeles International Airport and the Department of Water and Power, has been named City Attorney in Riverside. The Riverside City Council, which selected Geuss from six finalists, is scheduled to approve a contract with him at a City Council meeting on Tuesday.
