City of Riverside, Firefighters Reach Agreement on 5½-Year Contract

The City of Riverside and the Riverside City Firefighters’ Association have reached an agreement on a 5½-year contract that, for the first time, calls for all employees to pay a portion of their pension premiums and ties future raises to the City’s overall financial performance. Firefighters also agreed to defer a 2.5 percent raise that was to take effect July 1 in order to help the City balance its 2016-18 budget. The agreement calls for raises of varying amounts in years 2-5 of the contract, starting Jan. 1, 2018. Read More...

City Council Members Redirect Funds to Preserve La Sierra Park Fireworks

The annual 4th of July fireworks show at La Sierra Park, which had been recommended for cancellation this year due to budget constraints, will go forward after all. In an effort to preserve the show, City Council members Jim Perry and John Burnard offered to donate money from their respective council budgets to make up roughly half of the $28,000 cost of the show. City staff took them up on the offer and are working to find the other half of the required funds. Read More...

MakerSpace at Riverside’s Main Library to Celebrate Grand Opening June 7

The new MakerSpace at the Main Library in downtown Riverside will celebrate its grand opening at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 7. The free event is open to everyone. A MakerSpace is a “do-it-yourself” area where library patrons can use computers, innovative software, crafts and other high-tech tools to create everything from jewelry to clothes to art.
