The State of California’s EDD’s main focus is assisting with the various needs of small business employers. Programs available through the EDD that benefit small businesses include:

• On-the-Job Training (OJT)

On-the-Job Training allows a business to hire and train a new employee in the basic skills necessary to perform the job while working in the job. A business can receive up to 50% of the employee’s wages to help offset the cost of training and the loss of productivity. Funds are not available for temporary or seasonal positions or jobs which are based on commission or piece work.
• Employment Training Panel Funds (ETP)

A state funded program that allows manufacturing, distribution, logistics and transportation companies to implement a customized training program to upgrade the skills of their workforce at low to no cost. ETP is here to assist you in making your employees and company more productive to meet global competition. Funds are only available for full-time (minimum of 35 hours per week) employees and on the job a minimum of 90 days prior to the start of training.
• Workforce Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC)

The Workforce Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) is a Federal tax credit incentive that allows you to take a one-time tax credit for hiring an individual who meets certain criteria. Currently, a business can earn up to $9,000 per qualified employee.
