11th Annual Riverside Sport Hall of Fame Wall of Distinction Ceremony
The Riverside Sport Hall of Fame (RSHOF) annually recognizes noteworthy athletes, coaches and contributors who have brought honor and fame to the city by virtue of their athletic excellence. Honorees have their names inscribed in granite on the Wall of Distinction. After the ceremony, there will also be an official announcement of the new members of the Hall of Fame Class of 2013. The ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 19 at the Wall of Distinction located at Newman Park on the corner of Magnolia Avenue & 14th Street.
Special Olympics Team Sendoff Dance & Community Support Event
Come support the Special Olympics Team and wish the athletes good luck in the quest for the gold as they represent Team USA in the World Winter Games in the Republic of Korea at the end of January. The sendoff event costs $10 at the door and will take place January 19 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ability Counts (3810 Garner Rd.).
School’s Out Fun Day
The School’s Out Fun Day is a one-day camp on January 21 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for 5-12 year olds. The day’s events will have campers enjoying craft making, indoor and outdoor games and much more. Please provide camper with a sack lunch. Snacks are provided. The camp will be held at Bobby Bonds Park (2060 University Ave.) and Orange Terrace Community Center (20010 Orange Terrace Pkwy.). Space is limited so be sure to register early!
Martin Luther King Jr. Walk-A-Thon
The 20th Annual Martin Luther King Walk-A-Thon, sponsored by the Black History Committee, is a 3.5 mile walk that will begin at Stratton Community Center (2008 Martin Luther King Blvd.) on Monday, January 21 at 10 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and costs $10 per person. The walk will end at Riverside City College Digital Library (4800 Magnolia Ave.) and will feature entertainment from 11:30 a.m. - 3 p.m. Day of event on-site registration is accepted.
Arizona vs. California All Star Football Game
The top 32 players from Arizona and Southern California were selected to play in the 3rd annual Arizona vs. Southern California All Star Game. The game will be held Monday, January 21 at 12:30 p.m. at Wheelock Stadium on the Riverside City College Campus (4800 Magnolia Ave.) and will be broadcast on Fox Sports.
