Riverside Arts Walk
The Riverside Arts Walk is a monthly community event held every First Thursday from 6-9 p.m. that celebrates the diversity of arts and culture in Riverside and the Inland Empire. Visitors can explore over 22 downtown locations, including museums, galleries and studios, presenting an eclectic mix of visual and performing arts.
WHEELS UP Art Demo/Reception at RAM
On January 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Riverside Art Museum (3425 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside, CA 92501) will host an art demonstration and reception for WHEELS UP: The Wheelchair as Artistic Vehicle which features work of various media by five artists associated with the Academy of Special Dreams organization. While each of these artists uses a wheelchair for mobility, their respective means of creating art illustrates the diversity within the special-needs community. Artists Jhovana Cecena, Tom Doyle, Todd Tostado, Martin Vogel, and Nikita Wang are each highlighted for their artistic merit and creation of innovative tools. The exhibition will be on display until February 21.
Tower of Power and Average White Band at the Fox
The Fox Performing Arts Center (3801 Mission Inn Ave., Riverside, CA 92501) will showcase two legends of soul, Tower of Power and Average White Band on January 5 at 8:00 p.m. After 40 years, Tower of Power is experiencing more popularity than ever before as they tour year 'round packing venues in the United States, the Pacific Rim, and all over Europe. Average White Band is widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Though perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit 'Pick Up the Pieces' the band's strength is actually shown in their consistently accomplished song-writing, culminating in several gold selling albums and multiple Grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records.
Riverside Lyric Opera Presents “Amahl and the Night Visitors”
Riverside Lyric Opera will perform Amahl and the Night Visitors” on January 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Landis Auditorium at Riverside City College (4800 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92506) and on January 6 at 3 p.m. at the Hole Memorial Auditorium at La Sierra University (4500 Riverwalk Pkwy., Riverside, CA 92505). The performance featuring Suzanna Guzman is an opera in one act about a shepherd boy and his mother who witness a miracle when visited by the three wise men.
