Statewide Heat Wave Puts Great Pressure on California’s Electric System. Flex Your Power, Riverside!

Published: 09/01/2017

The statewide heat wave is putting great pressure on California’s electric system.   Consumer energy demands on Friday, September 1, 2017 are anticipated to reach all-time highs.  The California ISO has issued a FlexAlert to alert consumers of the need to conserve electricity from 1:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Riverside Public Utilities is projecting a system peak of 650 MW. RPU hit an all-time record yesterday with 641 MW. Internal generation is available. We expect four units at the Riverside Energy Resource Center to run on Saturday, September 2, 2017.

Please be informed that due to excessive high heat in the region and anticipated increased demand on the state electrical grid, the California Independent System Operator Corporation (ISO) has issued a Flex Alert starting Tuesday, August 29th.  All are encouraged to assist by conserving electricity during peak hours between 2 p.m. – 9 p.m.
