Project Description

Planning and design for the railroad grade separation at Iowa Avenue and the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad tracks is underway. Iowa Avenue will be raised over the BNSF railroad between Palmyrita Avenue and Spring Street. Citrus Street east of Iowa Avenue will remain in is current location, but turns will be restricted to right in from northbound Iowa and right turn out onto northbound Iowa. Citrus Street west of Iowa Avenue will go under the new Iowa overpass and loop back to intersect with Iowa Avenue to retain access.

  • The project will take approximately 16 months to construct.
  • Iowa Avenue will be closed to through traffic during construction.

  • Average daily traffic on Iowa Avenue is over 16,000 vehicles per day and is projected to increase to 32,000 vehicles per day by 2025
  • Approximately 90 freight trains and 10 passenger trains cross Iowa Avenue daily
  • Number of trains is expected to increase to 169 per day by 2030.
