Your household plumbing (the drains from sinks, showers, toilets, etc.) is connected to a
private sewer lateral line which carries waste water from your home to the City’s main sewer line. Care and maintenance of the
private lateral line up to the property line is the responsibility of each resident. Care and maintenance of the City’s sewer main line
and lateral line within the public right-of-way is the responsibility of the City.
If there is an issue with your sewer line and a licensed plumber or contractor determines the problem is caused by the City’s portion of the line, then you should immediately contact the 3-1-1 Call Center. City Staff will be dispatched to investigate the issue.
