Needles & Sharps Disposal

New Sharps Disposal Program!
The Public Works Department has partnered with the Fire Department to provide sharps disposal locations to City of Riverside Residents. Click Here for more information!

It is unlawful to put medical sharps such as hypodermic needles, lancets, pen needles, etc. into curbside collection recycle or trash containers.

Approved Containers

City of Riverside residents may dispose of sharps at any one of the sharps program collection locations as long as their sharps are within an appropriate sealed container.

Approved Sharps Containers

Sharps must be in a sharps disposal container or in a hard sided PLASTIC container like a bleach or laundry detergent bottle with a secure lid.
Containers that held a food product are not appropriate for use.
The sharps container must have a label that states "Biohazard" with a secure lid. Residents can print their own biohazard label from home by clicking HERE.
