The City of Riverside rate payers recently received a notice
regarding the refuse rates proposed for the period from July
2013 to June 2017 and the public hearing which will be held
regarding the rates on February 12, 2013.

The proposed rates include minimal annual increases to fund actual charges in disposal costs and continue to meet increased state requirements for recycling. The City of Riverside now enjoys a 69% diversion of trash from the landfill that is now being recycled. This diversion rate is one of the highest in the state.
With demands for recycling increasing to 75% and the cost for fuel increasing significantly, we need continue providing opportunities for recycling for all residents and businesses and continue to control our costs. By having small regular incremental increases to cover actual costs, rates are kept stable minimizing the need for large one time increases in the future.
