Vector Control

Vector Control is the protection of public health through the identification, prevention, and control of pests (typically insects and rodents) that transmit infectious diseases such as West Nile Virus and Hantavirus.

Currently, the City of Riverside only provides minimal service and treatment-only response to mosquitoes and bee removal on City property. In order to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases, the Northwest Mosquito and Vector Control District mailed ballots to affected property owners proposing to provide services to the portions of the City that they do not currently serve. On May 16, 2013, ballots for the annexation were tabulated and the proposal was approved by a majority of 60.73%. With this approval, the Northwest Mosquito and Vector Control District will expand to serve the entire City starting July 1, 2013. They will provide vector control services with environmentally safe approaches to address mosquitoes, Africanized bees, rats, rodents, and other vectors.
