Police Officer Entry Level
A Police Officer Entry applicant must have
completed a California Basic P.O.S.T.
Academy or have been employed as a
full-time sworn peace officer with a State of California law enforcement agency.
Those Applicants currently enrolled in a California Basic
may be accepted conditionally pending a successful completion of
the California Basic P.O.S.T.

Successful completion of a
POST certified written test, which measures
reading, writing, comprehension, and general
aptitude. A sample written test can be located

This test is waived for lateral applicants
Meet minimum performance
standards for physical agility.
Submit to an interview.
No felony conviction(s).
Submit to a fingerprint and
criminal history check.
Must be a
United States citizen or a permanent
resident alien who is eligible, and has applied
Must possess a valid
California driver’s license.
Minimum age of 20.5
years of age to participate in the testing
process, and 21 years of age at the time of

Good moral character as
determined by a thorough background
high school graduate, GED, or equivalent.
Submit to a polygraph
Successfully pass a Medical
and Psychological examination.
