Riverside Police Capture Two Burglars in Lotto Ticket Theft

Riverside, Ca-  On October 15, 2000 at about 5:40 am, Riverside Police Officers responded to a burglar alarm located at 3512 Central Avenue, the La Bodega Liquor Store. Sergeant Dan Hoxmeier arrived on the scene and saw a vehicle leaving the area of the burglary. He stopped the car at Riverside Avenue and Arlington Avenue in order to investigate the occupant's possible involvement with a crime. Officer Denny Corbett came to his location to assist on the stop.

The car was occupied by two male adults with one of them immediately running from the car and away from the police. The other man stayed inside of the car. Officer Denny Corbett ran after the one male, and captured him a short distance from the traffic stop.

Other police officers arrived at the original burglary location and found the front glass door of the store had been broken. They saw numerous lottery tickets strewn about the floor. The investigation revealed several hundred lottery tickets which were in the possession of the two arrested men. These tickets were the scratch-off type valued at several hundred dollars.

Daniel Mendoza, 20 years old, and Michael Macias, 23 years old, both from Riverside were arrested and charged with Commercial burglary. Both were released to staff members at the Robert Presley Detention Center.
