Riverside, Ca- On Saturday, April 28, 2001, at approximately 6:38 A.M., officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to assist the Riverside Fire Department in reference to a reported medical aid call at a residence in the 1300 block of Via Vista. Upon arrival they found a six-month old infant suffering from a possible head injury resulting from a reported accidental fall. The child was transported to Riverside Community Hospital, then later transferred to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
Investigators determined the injuries were not consistent with the account given by the child’s father who was taking care of the child at the time of the injury. The child’s father, identified as David Patkins, White male, 36 years old, of Riverside, was later booked into Robert Presley Detention Center for a charge of willfully inflicting injury to a child. The child was listed as being in very critical condition.
Anyone with further information related to this investigation is asked to contact Detective Melissa Bartholomew at (909) 320-8047, or Detective George Masson at (909) 320-8046.
