Riverside, Ca- On Saturday, February 17, 2001, at approximately 3:21 P.M., officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to a report of shots fired in front of the Foot Action USA shoe store inside the Galleria at Tyler. Uniformed officers assigned to the Galleria, along with uniformed security officers at the mall arrived and found a subject down at the entrance of the shoe store suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Responding medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Two suspects were seen running from the location. Uniformed officers located one of the suspects in front of the Burger King restaurant across the street from the Galleria. Investigators located the second suspect several hours later at his residence in Moreno Valley. The weapon believed used in the shooting was recovered. The Police Department is appreciative of the public’s assistance throughout the investigation. We are asking for assistance in identifying an unknown White female adult responsible for turning in evidence located inside Macy’s Department store. Anyone with information to her identity is asked to contact the Detectives listed below.
The victim has been identified as Johnny Ray Washington, Black male, 21 years old, of Carson. The suspects were identified as Aasim Nia, Black male, 21 years old, and Ron Tito Metoyer, Black male, 24 years old, both of Moreno Valley. They were booked into the Robert Presley Detention for murder.
