Major Injury/Fatal Traffic Collision

Location: Arlington Av. @ Hawarden Dr.

Time: 11:40 AM

Driver-1: Gerardo Montes (19)
Residence: Riverside, Ca.
Injuries: Fracture to the neck/spine, head and internal trauma. Critical condition @ Riverside Community Hospital.

Narrative: At approximately 11:40 AM today a 1967 Ford Mustang driven by Mr. Montes was W/B Arlington Av. approaching Hawarden Dr. Mr. Montes lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center divider and impacted with a large palm tree. Medical personnel from the Riverside Fire department removed Mr. Montes from the vehicle and he was transported to Riverside Community Hospital via ambulance.

At this point it appears the collision can be attributed to unsafe speed for conditions on the part of Mr. Montes. At the time of the collision the streets were wet from rain however it was not raining at the time of the collision. Any witnesses to this collision are asked to contact the Riverside Police Department Traffic Division at (909)826-5232.

The collision and follow up investigation is being conducted by the Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
