Riverside, Ca- On Monday, June 25, 2001 around 2335 hours officers responded to the 3500 block of Chicago Ave. reference a radio call of gunshots heard in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered a female suffering from a non-lethal gunshot wound to the chest area. She was transported to Riverside Community Hospital and treated for her injury.
Officers learned the victim was confronted by several subjects in front of one of the apartment complexes. One of the subjects brandished a shotgun and fired several rounds at the victim. One of the shotgun pellets struck the victim in the chest area. The suspect fled the area.
The motive for the shooting is unclear at this time and anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Sergeant John DeLaRosa at (909) 320-8005.
