Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday, 03-20-2001 at 1537 Hrs, the Riverside Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation responded to a bank robbery in progress at the Bank of America at 1680 University Avenue. Two unidentified males armed with a semi automatic handgun entered the bank and ordered the customers to the floor. The robbers obtained an undisclosed amount of U.S. Currency and attempted to flee when they confronted an armed bank security guard. The security guard ordered the suspects to drop their weapons, at which time one of the suspects raised his weapon toward the security guard, who discharged his weapon in self-defense. No injuries were reported. The suspects fled on foot and one of the suspects was located by Sergeant John Romo several minutes later at a liquor store attempting to hide. Numerous items of evidence including a large amount of U.S. Currency was recovered.
The suspect was positively identified and subsequently booked for robbery.
