Riverside, Ca- On May 23, 2001, at 12:40 a.m., a twenty-two year old male hispanic was shot while he was riding in a vehicle traveling eastbound on the 91-Freeway near La Sierra Avenue (within the city of Riverside). A passenger in an unknown make vehicle, which contained five subjects, began shooting at the victim and his two companions as they traveled on the freeway. The victim was struck in the back by the gunfire. As a result, the victim has been paralyzed from the shoulder area downward. The victim is currently listed in critical condition.
The victim was driven to the Riverside Community Hospital by his companions. After medical staff assisted the victim in the hospital, the victim's companions drove away without supplying any additional information.
The five occupants of the suspect vehicle were described as "skin heads". The investigation is continuing and will be further investigated by the Department's General Investigation Bureau.
