Riverside, Ca-  On Wednesday, October 03, 2001, Police Officers from the Riverside Police Departmentís School Resource Officer and Youth Resource Officer Unit coordinated a "Truancy Enforcement Project." Department Managers and staff from both the Riverside Unified and Alvord Unified School Districts participated in this collaborative effort that also included Security Staff from the Galleria at Tyler.

Officers and School District Attendance Investigators contacted in excess of fifty students in order to determine if they were in violation of Riverside Municipal Code Section 9.10.010 Daytime Loitering by Minors.

"It is unlawful for any minor under the age of eighteen years, who is subject to compulsory education or to compulsory continuation education to loiter, idle, wander, or be in or upon the public streets, highways, roads, alley, parks, playground, or other public grounds, public places, vacant buildings, or any unsupervised place during the operating school hours of the juvenile offenderís school on days when the juvenile offenderís school is in session."

Twenty-two truant students were cited for the "daytime loitering" violation. The truant students were then returned to their schools of origin. These schools were located throughout the City of Riverside and adjoining areas such as Colton, Lake Elsinore and Rubidoux.
