Riverside, Ca- During the month of August, 2001, the West County Narcotics Task Force began investigating a subject dealing quantities of MDMA (ecstasy) in the city of Moreno Valley. That investigation led authorities to other subjects in Los Angeles County.
The task force requested assistance from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement. After a two month joint investigation, officers obtained arrest and search warrants. On October 4, 2001, officers arrested Shaun Duncan, 21 years of Beaumont, Robert Sinn, 22 years of Northridge and Joel Esparanza, 23 years of Moreno Valley in the 3700 block of Cahuenga Blvd, Studio City, for distributing a controlled substance and conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.
Officers searched residences in the cities of Beaumont (Riverside County,) Northridge, Panorama City and Van Nuys (Los Angeles County.) During the course of the investigation, officers seized the following:
7,285 tablets containing MDMA (ecstasy) with an approximate street value of $182,125.
9 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $45,000.
1 gram of cocaine with a street value of $80.
1 handgun, 1 shotgun and $6,500 cash.
All three subjects were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
The West County Narcotics Task Force is a cooperative effort between the Riverside Police Department, the Riverside County Probation Department, the Corona Police Department, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department, the Moreno Valley Police Department, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Riverside County Department of Child Protective Services.
