Location: 3600 Block of Central Avenue, Riverside CA
Riverside, Ca. - At approximately 1241 hours, two armed men entered the Cal Fed Bank on Central Avenue and committed a robbery. Several witnesses telephoned the Riverside Police Department and provided a vehicle description and license plate. The vehicle, a white Cadillac, had been reported stolen from San Bernardino.
Officers in Air One, the Riverside Police helicopter, observed the vehicle in the 4600 block of Jurupa and ground units responded to contact the occupants. An additional suspect was seen getting out of the Cadillac and entering a teal green Camaro with two other men. The trio proceeded to Olivewood and 14th Street under the surveillance of the Air Unit.
The men entered onto the 215 freeway towards San Bernardino with ground and air units following. They continued on the freeway traveling at the speed limit. Ground Officers attempted to stop the vehicle at Columbia Street but the trio ignored the officers emergency lights and siren and accelerated. The men continued on the freeway into San Bernardino and suddenly stopped at Baseline Street where they ran from the car into the adjoining neighborhood.
Officers from San Bernardino PD, Riverside CHP and the Riverside Police Department established a perimeter and gave chase on foot. Three men were arrested and one additional man was detained for further investigation. One of the arrestee’s was transported to San Bernardino Community hospital after complaining of difficulty breathing resulting from running through yards in the hot weather from police.
