Riverside, CA – On Saturday, April 13, 2002, at approximately 3:30 P.M., Officers of the Riverside Police Department responded to a residence in the 5700 block of Montgomery regarding a report of a man with a gun. Officers arrived and determined the suspect had battered his spouse earlier in the day, as well as the night before. Witnesses reported the suspect was possibly in one of four apartments within a four-plex at the location. Residents from three of the four apartments exited as Officers attempted to call the suspect out by use of a public address system. Shortly before 6:00 P.M., the suspect exited the fourth apartment and surrendered to Officers.
The suspect, identified as Everardo Ortiz, Hispanic male, 28-years-old, of Riverside, was booked into Robert Presley Detention for charges of spousal abuse and making criminal threats. A rifle was recovered in the suspect’s vehicle.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld for her safety, suffered minor injuries.
