Riverside, Ca- At
10:06 a.m. Riverside Police Officers responded to a market in the 2600 block of
Main Street where a customer’s truck had just been stolen at gunpoint.
The victim had exited the market and was preparing to leave when a man
approached, pointed a gun at him, and demanded he get out of his 2002 Chevrolet
truck. The victim complied and immediately called the police. He provided the
police with the vehicle description, license plate number, and suspect
description.
Officer Kim Boemia located the
truck driving east on Spruce Street. She followed the truck and attempted to
stop it. The suspect driver did not comply and fled at a high rate of speed. The
Riverside Police Department helicopter was nearby and assisted as officers
pursued the stolen truck. The suspect reached speeds of 90 miles per hour as it
traveled through a commercial district. He was involved in two collisions prior
to entering the northbound 215 Freeway. No one was injured in either collision.
California Highway Patrol
Officers assisted Riverside Police Officers as the pursuit traveled into San
Bernardino. The suspect stopped on the 215 Freeway near the 2nd
Street exit. Officers conducted a high-risk traffic stop and arrested the
suspect without incident. The freeway was closed for approximately 10 minutes.
Officers recovered a stolen 9
mm handgun inside the truck. The truck was returned to its owner with minor
damage.
The suspect was identified as
25 year-old Raymond Moreno Jr. from San Bernardino. He is currently on parole
for grand-theft-auto. He was later booked for 215 P.C. Carjacking, 496 P.C.
Possession of Stolen Property, 2800.2 V.C. Felony Evading, 20002 V.C. Hit and
Run, 666 P.C. Petty Theft with a Prior, 3056 P.C. Violation of Parole, and 12021
P.C. Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
