Riverside, Ca- On August 14, 2002, at approximately 0520 hours, a 22-year-old woman was attacked while she was jogging on the bicycle path near the Santa Ana river bottom West of the Van Buren Blvd. bridge. The victim was jogging alone, when she was grabbed by the suspect and dragged into a nearby dirt field. The victim resisted her attacker, striking him with a metal pipe that she found lying in the dirt during the struggle. The victim broke free and flagged down a passing motorist near the intersection of Tyler Avenue and Jurupa Avenue.
Riverside Police Officers were summoned. Officers responded by setting up a containment of the immediate area and conducting a field search with the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s canine (bloodhound) and her handler. Officers could not locate the suspect, who was last seen by the victim fleeing into the river bottom.
