Officer Involved Traffic Collision

Riverside, Ca-  At approximately 5:40 P.M. on Saturday, August 17, 2002 Officer Robert Nibecker was stopped in the #1 N/B lane of Magnolia Ave at Central Ave. for a red traffic signal.  Officer Nibecker was on-duty as a uniformed patrol officer in a marked police vehicle.  A 20 yr. old female, driving a four-wheel drive Ford pick-up collided with the rear end of the officer’s police vehicle.  She had also been traveling N/B in the #1 lane of Magnolia Ave. and had begun to slow for the red signal.  As she saw traffic begin to move on a green arrow for the left turn lane to W/B Central Ave., she began to accelerate thinking she also had a green light and struck the rear of the stopped police vehicle.

Officer Nibecker was transported via ambulance to Riverside Community Hospital for medical treatment.  At the time of this press release he was still undergoing treatment, but is in good condition.  The other driver was not injured.  There was no indication that alcohol or controlled substances were involved.
