Riverside, Ca- On Saturday, October 19, 2002, at approximately 2:07 P.M., officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to Chicago Ave., between Country Club Dr. and Central Ave. in reference to a report of a major injury traffic collision.
Upon arrival they found a white Nissan Sentra and white Dodge Caravan blocking the southbound lanes. One driver had been ejected down an embankment and was deceased. Medical aid personnel responded to the scene and transported the other driver to a local hospital for treatment.
Witnesses reported seeing the Nissan driving north on Chicago Ave. when it suddenly swerved across both lanes of traffic, crossed over the double yellow lines and was struck broadside by the south bound Dodge. The Nissanís 19 year-old female driver was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was treated for minor injuries. Members of the department's Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to further investigate the collision.
