Riverside, Ca- At 9:08 PM on Saturday, September 7, 2002 Officers observed a late model Toyota pick-up driving westbound on University Ave. at Eucalyptus St. with no lights. They attempted to stop the truck in the area of University and Victoria. The truck initially began to yield then accelerated away.
The vehicle continued westbound through the downtown area at a high rate of speed. The driver entered the intersection of University and Market on a red light and collided with a passenger van containing seven people. The driver then fled on foot. After a brief foot chase officers took the suspect into custody near the Greyhound Bus Depot.
The driver of the van was transported to Riverside Community Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries. The suspect was also transported via ambulance to Riverside Community Hospital with complaint of pain and a very rapid heart beat.
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old William Zacker from Huntington Beach. He is currently on felony probation for narcotics violations in Orange County. He was later booked for 2800.2 V.C., Felony Evading, 20001 V.C., Felony Hit & Run, 23152a V.C. Driving Under the Influence.
