Riverside, Ca- At approximately 7:45 pm on September 11, 2002, officers responded to the intersection of Van Buren and Cole regarding a major injury collision. The preliminary investigation indicates that a pedestrian, riding a skateboard, was traveling westbound on the south sidewalk of Van Buren. The pedestrian entered the intersection on a red light and was struck by a Mazda sedan traveling northbound in the #1 lane.
The pedestrian sustained major injuries to his head and was transported to Riverside County Regional Medical Center. He is currently listed in critical condition. The pedestrian is identified as John Hutchinson IV, 18 yrs, from Riverside.
Personnel from the Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and conducted follow-up investigation into the collision.
