Suspect arrested for threatening children

Riverside, Ca-  On Thursday, September 26, 2002, at approximately 4:21 P.M., officers from the Riverside Police Department responded to a report of a subject possibly armed with a knife threatening children playing on the playground at the Riverside Community Settlements House, 4366 Bermuda.  The officers learned a subject had walked onto the playground area where approximately 25 children, ranging in age between four and seven-years-old, were playing.  The subject made threatening statements.  The children ran to the Settlement House and informed staff members, who phoned the Police.

Officers located the subject a couple of blocks away on Fourteenth Street near Park Avenue.  The subject was arrested and transported to the Riverside County Mental Health Unit for evaluation.  The suspect was identified as Isais Ortiz, male Hispanic, 43-years-old-of Riverside.  The knife was not recovered.
