Riverside, Ca- At approximately 0310 hours on
4-8-03, a Riverside Police Officer stopped a Nissan Sentra on Schuyler Street
west of La Sierra. The vehicle was previously reported stolen from Riverside.
When the vehicle came to a stop, the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran
from the scene. As the officer began to run after the suspect, he noticed that
the passenger in the suspect vehicle got out of the car and entered the driver’s
side of the vehicle. The officer terminated the foot chase and ran back toward
the suspect vehicle.
The suspect looked at the officer and backed up directly toward him. The officer
jumped out of the way to avoid being stuck by the suspect. The suspect vehicle
struck the front push bumper of the patrol unit. The suspect then fled the area
in the suspect vehicle. The officer initiated a pursuit, which led him to the 91
freeway and Green River Drive. At that point the CHP took over the pursuit due
to a loss of radio transmission. The pursuit terminated in Long Beach at
Terminal Island at approximately 0400 hours. The suspect was transported back to
Riverside where he was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for
Felony Evading and Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
