Riverside, Ca- On Friday, April 18, 2003 at
approximately 1:47 pm, the Riverside Police Department’s Communications Center
received numerous 9-1-1 phone calls regarding shots being fired inside of
Robinson’s May, at the Galleria at Tyler shopping mall (1299 Galleria at Tyler).
On arrival, officers received information that the suspect had fired several
shots inside of the store, but not specifically at any other person. Officers
from the Special Weapons And Tactics Team (S.W.A.T.) responded and determined
that the suspect had barricaded himself inside an administrative office. When
the officers made entry into the office, they found the suspect deceased, with
what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to the upper torso. Members
of the S.W.A.T. team continued their search of the entire mall until they
rendered it to be safe. Once the mall was determined to be safe, it was
re-opened for business.
The identity of the deceased male has not been released, pending notification of
next of kin. Officers received information that the deceased male might have had
an employment relationship with Robinson’s May.
A complete check of local hospitals and medical service centers found no other
persons, including officers, to be injured during this incident at this time.
The investigation is on-going. Any person with information is encouraged to call
the Riverside Police Department’s General Investigations Bureau at (909)
320-8000.
