Riverside, Ca- On July 30, 2003,
at 2248 hours, officers of the Riverside Police Department responded to a fatal
traffic collision at the intersection of California Ave and Monroe Street.
According to a witness, a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass was traveling W/B California
when it failed to stop for a red light and collided broadside with a 1995 Dodge
Caravan traveling N/B Monroe Street. The occupants of both vehicles were
injured.
An unidentified adult male passenger in the Oldsmobile was killed. The driver of
the Oldsmobile, Joseph Pena, 45, of North Wilkesboro, N.C., was transported to
Riverside Community Hospital where he was treated for major injuries.
The 17 year-old female driver of the Dodge Caravan and two adult passengers, all
from Riverside, received minor injuries. They were transported to Riverside
County Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Members of the Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.)
responded.
