Riverside, Ca- On Thursday, May
22, 2003 the Riverside Police Department will host the Firearms Familiarization
course for the 18th Academy Class. The Firearms course will be held at the
Riverside Police Department, located at 8181 Lincoln Ave., from 6:00pm - 8:00pm,
followed by a Police K-9 demonstration from 8:00pm - 9:00pm. The department is
extending an invitation to members of the media to come out and take pictures
and/or interview some class participants.
The Citizens Academy is designed to form a stronger partnership between citizens
and the Riverside Police Department through education. Throughout the Academy,
participants have received classroom instruction on patrol procedures, use of
force policies, community oriented policing and problem solving, gangs and
narcotics investigations, traffic education, firearms familiarization and much
more. With this training, participants will receive an inside look into the
Riverside Police Department.
This fun and exciting program unites the community with the police providing
positive public safety information, to the citizens of Riverside. Applications
are accepted on a continual basis at the Orange St. Station and all community

*There will be two separate classes going
through the firearms course. In order to film the participants, members of the
media must attend the safety presentation given by the on-duty Rangemaster. The
Firearms classes are from 6:00pm –7:00pm and from 7:00pm – 8:00pm. Please call
in advance if you plan on attending. Space is limited!
