Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday, May
27, 2003 at approximately 1:06 pm, the Riverside Police Communications Center
received a phone call from a citizen regarding a suspicious occupied vehicle at
the corner of Esparanza Street and Marguerita Avenue. Shortly after 1:40 pm, two
Riverside Police Officers arrived on scene and made contact with the suspect
inside of the vehicle.
The lone suspect exited the vehicle armed with a knife. After contact was made,
both officers fired their service weapons at the suspect striking him at least
once. A license check was conducted on the suspect’s vehicle, a 1997 silver
Acura, and found that it was a listed as a “Stolen Vehicle”.
The suspect was treated for his injuries at the scene by medical personnel and
transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The suspect’s
identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin. No other
injuries have been reported as a result of this incident.
