Riverside, Ca- On Saturday October 25, 2003 the Riverside Police Department, in conjunction with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, UCR Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and Corona Police Department, will present the 8th Annual Eastside Soccer Clinic at Bobby Bonds Park, located at 2060 University Ave. The soccer program is hosted and sponsored by the “El Protector” coalition of local law enforcement agencies. The “El Protector” program is a community outreach program that helps to shape the future of local youth through several different avenues. Each year the soccer clinic serves to unite underprivileged youth with local police officers for a festive day of fun, food, sports, and entertainment.
As in the past, coaches for the event include Police Officer volunteers, UCR student organizations, and the UCR men and women’s soccer teams. Children throughout the day will be given instruction in soccer skills, team spirit, and community values. Each child will receive a free soccer ball and commemorative tee shirt.
The majority of the 300 children that will
participate have been pre-registered over the past several weeks at local
churches and community events. The event will begin at 8:00 A.M. and come to a
close at 3:00 P.M. Several local clubs and community service groups will be on
hand to provide information from several booths at the event. Various law
enforcement agencies will also have several vehicles and a helicopter on display
during the event.
