Riverside, Ca- On April 10, 2005, at 10:55pm,
a 25-year-old male driving a 1987 Mercedes was traveling east on Arlington
Avenue when a 1991 Mercury driven by a 60 year old female pulled out north
across Arlington from the shopping center at 6100 Arlington. The driver of the
Mercedes was unable to stop in time to avoid colliding with the other vehicle
and overturning. The Mercedes continued east across Arlington on it’s side until
it struck the curb just west of Adams where it rolled before striking a pole and
coming to rest on the north embankment. The mercury was spun eastward and came
to rest in the eastbound lanes.
The Mercedes contained the 25-year-old male driver, his 27-year-old female
companion and her 3-year-old daughter. The male was taken to Riverside County
Regional Medical Center along with the little girl. He was listed in stable
condition with contusions and trauma injuries. The child, who was securely
fastened in the rear seat in her child safety seat, was released to family
members after being treated for scratches and abrasions. The 27-year-old female
sustained major injury and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where she
went into surgery and was listed in critical condition with broken bones and
blunt force trauma injuries.
The driver of the Mercury, a Riverside resident, was taken to Riverside
Community Hospital where she was treated for a possible broken arm and broken
collarbone. She was listed in stable condition.
Members of the Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.)
responded and the collision is under investigation. Anyone with further
information may contact Sergeant Duane Beckman at (951) 826-5237.
