Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at 1:30 PM, Israel Daniel Gomez, 18, of Riverside was arrested for the murder of 15 year old Jesse Velasco.

On December 3, 2005 at approximately 4 PM, Gomez allegedly shot Velasco as he was walking on Streeter Avenue near Sunnyside Drive. Investigation revealed that Velasco and another subject were approached, for unknown reasons, by an assailant who fired one or more shots, striking Velasco at least once. Two other subjects were shot at but unharmed.

Detectives from the Riverside Police Department focused the investigation on Gomez after following up on information obtained from eyewitnesses to the murder.

Gomez was arrested without incident at the Riverside Police Department’s Spruce Street station and booked into Robert Presley Detention Center.

Charges:

PC 187 - Homicide -1 count
PC 664/187 - Attempted Homicide - 2 counts
