Riverside, Ca- On 07/30/05, at 1607 hours,
Riverside police officers responded to a call of a major injury accident at the
intersection of Van Buren Blvd and Dufferin Avenue that involved three vehicles.
Based on preliminary investigation, Gary Wynn, a 19-year-old Riverside resident,
was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Suburban northbound on Van Buren and failed to stop
for a red light. Wynn’s vehicle collided with a 1988 Chevrolet Blazer that was
being driven eastbound on Dufferin by Eloy Gutierrez, a 51-year old Riverside
resident. After the initial impact, Wynn’s vehicle then collided with a third
vehicle, a 1990 Toyota pick-up being driven by a 63 year-old male from
Riverside. The driver of the Toyota pick-up suffered major blunt force trauma
injuries and was transported to Riverside Community Hospital where he was
pronounced dead. Wynn was transported to Riverside Community Hospital and
admitted for moderate non-life threatening injuries. Guiterrez was not injured
in the collision. The preliminary investigation revealed that alcohol does not
appear to have been a factor in this collision.
The Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the accident.
