Riverside, Ca- On Friday October 7th at about 2:45 am
a northbound Union Pacific train struck and slightly injured a Riverside
resident near Mission Inn Avenue and Vine Street.
Riverside Police and Fire units responded along with Union Pacific Police
officers. Elena Herrera, 40 years old, was seen sitting on the railroad tracks
just north of Mission Inn Avenue and east of Vine Street. The northbound train
was traveling about 40 miles per hour and Ms. Herrera attempted to move off of
the tracks as the train approached. She did not move far enough away from the
train and was struck by the front of the train.
She suffered contusions to several parts of her body and was transported to
Riverside Community Hospital where she is being treated for non-life threatening
injuries.
The tracks at Third Street east of Vine were blocked for about an hour while the
incident was investigated.
