Riverside, Ca- On Saturday, October 15, 2005 at about
2:16 AM a 2000 Honda Civic was involved in a collision with a utility pole on
Rutland Avenue just north of Cypress Avenue. Riverside Police and Fire units
responded and found the driver and sole occupant of the car suffering from major
head trauma. The driver was transported via ambulance to Riverside Community
Hospital where he remains in very critical condition. The driver is a 20 year
old resident of Perris.
The Police Department investigation found that the driver was seen driving north
on Rutland Avenue at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the intersection
with Cypress Avenue. The vehicle continued northbound where it left the roadway
and collided with a utility pole. The force of the collision caused the pole to
be severed from the base.
There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles involved in the
collision.
City of Riverside Utilities Department crews responded to repair the pole. The
power supply to the area was not interrupted.
