Riverside, Ca- On Friday December 3, 2004 at
about 2:35 P.M. Riverside Police Officers responded to the 4000 block of Pine
Street to arrest 39 year-old Gerardo Delgado of Riverside. He had been
identified earlier in the day as a suspect in a domestic violence related
kidnapping and false imprisonment case. The victim reported Delgado was armed
with a gun and made statements that he would shoot anyone who went to his
residence.
When the two sergeants and five officers arrived at the scene, they contacted
Delgado at the front door of his residence. Through the open front door officers
saw Delgado point a handgun at them. They repeatedly ordered him to drop the
weapon but he did not comply with their commands.
Three officers fired their weapons. Delgado was struck at least once in the
upper body. The officer immediately requested medical aid. Delgado was
transported to Riverside Community Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
No officers or civilians were injured in this incident.
Upon his release from Riverside Community Hospital, Delgado will be transferred
to the Riverside Regional Medical Center where he will be booked into the jail
ward. He is facing charges of Kidnapping, False Imprisonment, Intimidating a
Witness, Resisting Arrest, and Assault on a Police Officer.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call Detective Greg
Rowe at 951-320-8024 or Detective Steve Shumway at 951-320-8011.
