Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday July 13, at about
1:46 PM, Riverside Police Officers responded to Palm Avenue and Maplewood Place
to investigate reports of an injury traffic collision. Upon arrival officers
discovered a 12 year-old female bicyclist had been struck by a full size 1978
Chevy pickup truck.
The bicyclist was traveling westbound on Maplewood Place when she failed to stop
for the posted stop sign at intersection with Palm Avenue. As the bicyclist
crossed the opposing lanes of Palm Avenue, she was struck by the Chevy pickup,
traveling northbound on Palm Avenue.
Members of the Riverside Fire Department and AMR paramedics responded and
attempted to stabilize the juvenile. She was transported to Riverside Community
Hospital and later pronounced deceased due to her injuries.
The driver of the Chevy pickup, Fredrick Behrends, 50 years old from Riverside,
was not injured and was interviewed at the scene of the collision.
The Riverside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team responded
and is further investigating the incident.
