Pedestrian-2: Antonio Santos (43) City of Tustin, Ca.
Riverside, Ca- Mr. Coreno was traveling E/B on Arlington Av. in the #2 lane of travel approaching Hillside. Mr. Santos was crossing Arlington Av. at Hillside in the crosswalk. Mr. Coreno collided with Mr. Santos at the intersection. The impact pushed Mr. Santos upper body through the windshield of Mr. Coreno’s vehicle.
Mr. Coreno continued driving approximately 50’ at which time Mr. Santos fell from the vehicle and onto the pavement. Mr. Coreno then fled the scene making no effort to see if Mr. Santos had been injured. Witnesses at the scene state Mr. Coreno failed to stop for the red signal.
Approximately 15 minutes after the collision Mr. Coreno returned to the scene in the same vehicle involved in the collision. Mr. Coreno was arrested and booked into Robert Presley Detention Center for Felony Hit & Run.
Mr. Santos was treated at the scene by members of the Riverside Fire Department and transported to Riverside Community Hospital (RCH). Mr. Santos suffered head and upper torso trauma, fractures to one leg and unknown internal injuries. Mr. Santos was admitted to RCH in serious condition. Mr. Coreno was also treated by on scene medical personnel but was not injured by the collision.
The investigation is being conducted by the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) of the Traffic Division of the Riverside Police Department.
