Riverside, Ca- On Tuesday May 11, 2004 the Riverside Police Department conducted a “John Program” in the area of University and Chicago in the City of Riverside. Members of the Vice Unit, the University Neighborhood Enforcement Team and the Problem Oriented Policing team conducted the operation targeting subjects who solicit prostitutes for sex. Under cover female officers posed as prostitutes and were selected by male suspects.
The program lasted approximately six hours and resulted in the arrests of fourteen subjects. Eight of the subjects were men who were issued citations for PC 647(b), Solicitation of Prostitution and two subjects were issued citations for PC 653.22(a), Loitering for the Purpose of Prostitution. Four other subjects were also arrested on felony charges. One for PC 3056 Parole violation, One for HS 11351.5 Possession of Rock Cocaine for Sale, one for HS 11377(a) possession of Methamphetamine and one for an outstanding warrant for narcotic violations. All of the men cited for PC 647(b) and 653.22(a) were released at the scene. The other subjects were booked into the Riverside County Jail. This program is part of an on going investigation into prostitution in the area and will continue on a regular basis.
