Riverside, Ca- On August 24, 2004, Riverside
Police investigated a Domestic Violence related attempt murder that occurred on
the evening of August 23, 2004, in the 2700 block of Iris Street. The suspect,
Leopoldo Garcia severely battered and choked his 24-year-old girlfriend
unconscious, then battered and choked her children ages one and four.
The suspect refused to allow the victim to leave or to call for medical aid for
her or the children. While holding a shotgun, Garcia threatened to kill the
victim and her four-year old child. The victims escaped the following day and
notified police.
The suspect, Leopoldo Martinez Garcia (described below) is known to frequent the
area of Denton Street and Maude Street, and an aunts residence in the 2700
block of Iris Street.
Garcia is on parole for assault with a firearm and is considered armed and
dangerous. There is a felony warrant for his arrest on three counts of attempt
murder and violation of parole.
