Fatal traffic collision

Riverside, Ca- The Riverside Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a fatal nearly head-on collision on the Eastridge Avenue overpass over the Interstate 215 highway on Tuesday, April 18, 2006.

Dispatch received reports of a two-vehicle collision at 12:26 p.m. A silver 2001 Honda Civic, driven by Jamee Ryan, 17, of Riverside, was traveling westbound on Eastridge at the time of the collision. Ryan, and her 17-year-old female passenger, from Moreno Valley, were both wearing seatbelts. Airbags also deployed. Both were taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center with relatively minor injuries. Ryan suffered a possible broken leg.

The second vehicle, a white 1993 Ford Escort, driven by Wayne Scott Martin, 35, of Rubidoux, was traveling eastbound on Eastridge, making a left turn toward the northbound 215 on-ramp when the collision occurred. Martin was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, including two broken legs, a broken arm and head laceration.

Martinís front-seat passenger, an unidentified woman who appeared to be about age 55-60, was wearing a shoulder belt but without the lap seatbelt. The passenger sustained blunt force trauma injuries to the head and upper torso and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found no skid marks nor any sign of evasive action by either vehicle. Both vehicles appear to have been traveling at or above 35 miles per hour at the time of the collision. One of the vehicles would have had to run a red light at the controlled intersection. The investigation continues.

Portions of the intersection and adjacent ramps were closed for the investigation at 12:40 p.m. The intersection is expected to re-open about 6:30 p.m. Anyone with information about this collision should call Detective Rick Prince at (951) 825-5179.
