Fatal Traffic Collision – Vehicle vs Pedestrians
Riverside, Ca- On August 4, 2006, at 8:08pm, 51-year-old Michael Steven Horner from Riverside was driving his 1993
Honda Civic west on Arlington Avenue, approaching Barcelona Street when two female pedestrians, both Riverside residents,
began to walk south across Arlington from the north curb area just west of Barcelona. The driver applied his brakes, but was
unable to avoid striking the pedestrians.
Both pedestrians were struck by the right front end of the Honda and thrown onto the vehicle and then into the street.
Witnesses called 911 and Riverside Fire and Police arrived within minutes. Fire personnel attended to both females at the
scene. The driver of the Honda was badly shaken, but uninjured.
68-year-old Guadalupe Duran Fonseca was pronounced deceased from major traumatic injuries. Paramedics took her 11-year-old
granddaughter to Riverside Community Hospital. She remains in very critical condition with major traumatic injuries.
Members of the Riverside Police Department’s (M.A.I.T.) Major Accident Investigation Team responded and the collision is under
investigation. Anyone who witnessed the collision, but did not speak to officers at the scene, is asked to contact Detective
