Youths arrested for robberies

Riverside, Ca- Three Poly High School athletes are in custody for a series of strong-arm robberies committed in various parts of the city of Riverside during the month of June 2006.

Arrested are Shannon MASON, 18, a recent Poly graduate, and two other males, ages 17 and 15, who cannot be named because they are juveniles. A fourth suspect, age 14, is being sought. The young men are suspected in at least five, and possibly more, strongarm robberies. Subsequent investigation indicates the suspects may have also been involved in several vehicle and residential burglaries as well.

All of the robberies had similar characteristics: black male teens preying on male juvenile victims. According to victim statements, the suspects beat the victims and took wallets, iPod music devices, skateboards and other items. Two of the juvenile victims required hospitalization. The attacks occurred in areas adjacent to the high school, at Riverside Plaza, in the Orangecrest neighborhood and in other possible locations.

Anyone with additional information helpful to this investigation, or from other potential victims of similar attacks, is urged to contact Riverside Police Detective Dave Smith at (951) 353-7103.
