Woman Killed by Train
Riverside, Ca- On July 6, 2006, at approximately 1:23 AM, the Riverside Police Department received a call from a
Union Railroad train engineer advising that he had collided with a pedestrian. Officers arrived at the train tracks located
at Dewey and Palm Avenues and discovered the body of a deceased elderly female still underneath the train.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the engineer sounded the trains’ horn and activated the brakes after seeing an
elderly female walking on the tracks. He could not stop in time and collided with her. The controlling arms, lights and
audible bells all appeared to be functioning properly. There was a vehicle located nearby which appears to belong to the
deceased. Evidence at the scene and inside of the vehicle suggests the deceased may have committed suicide.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time pending notification of the next of kin by the Riverside County
Coroner’s office.
Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Riverside Police Department’s Investigations
Division at (951) 353-7100.
