Homicide Arrest

Riverside, Ca- On April 12, 2007, at 11:03 A.M., the daughter of a caregiver called 911 on behalf of her mother to report that the patient was not breathing and appeared dead. Riverside Fire Department personnel responded to the home located near the intersection of Tyler and Cook Avenue and found the 70-year-old woman dead inside a bedroom of the home.

Riverside Police Department Officers and Fire Fighters were told the victim was bed ridden because of a stroke that had partially paralyzed her. Though the woman was in poor health, suspicions regarding her cause of death were raised as members of the household were interviewed. Centralized Investigations Bureau Detectives were notified and responded to the scene with Evidence Technicians. The Riverside Sheriff’s Department, Coroner’s Office responded and the actual cause of death is pending an autopsy.

The caregiver, Rebecca Marie Perez-Welch, 35 years old, Riverside, CA, was arrested and booked for 187 PC/Homicide. Her husband, Timothy Welch, 38 years old, was arrested and booked for 368(b)(1) PC/Elder Abuse.
